Position Summary
Bortek Industries is seeking a skilled and motivated Heavy Equipment Technician to join our Pittsburgh service team. This position offers a consistent Monday through Friday schedule with no weekends, no on-call responsibilities, and a company-provided service van, allowing technicians to enjoy a strong work-life balance while building a rewarding career.
This role is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, servicing, and maintaining municipal equipment, street sweepers, jetters, and other industrial cleaning equipment. Technicians with experience servicing equipment from manufacturers such as Caterpillar, John Deere, Vermeer, Kubota, and similar brands will find their mechanical, hydraulic, diesel, and electrical troubleshooting skills directly applicable to the equipment we support every day.
As a Heavy Equipment Technician, you will play a critical role in helping municipalities, contractors, and commercial customers keep vital equipment operating safely, efficiently, and reliably.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Inspect, diagnose, repair, and maintain street sweepers and like equipment
- Perform planned maintenance services according to manufacturer recommendations and company standards
- Troubleshoot and repair diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, pneumatic systems, and mechanical components
- Diagnose equipment issues using electronic diagnostic tools, service manuals, and technical schematics
- Repair and replace pumps, vacuum systems, brooms, conveyors, water systems, suspension components, and other street sweeper-specific systems
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment
- Participate in manufacturer and company-sponsored training programs
- Follow all company policies, safety procedures, and applicable regulations
Qualifications
Required
- High school diploma or GED
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in heavy equipment, diesel, construction equipment, truck, agricultural, or industrial equipment repair
- Strong understanding of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and mechanical troubleshooting
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, wiring diagrams, and service documentation
- Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
Preferred
- Technical degree or certification in Diesel Technology, Heavy Equipment Technology, Automotive Technology, or a related field
- Experience servicing street sweepers, municipal equipment, construction equipment, or vocational trucks
- Welding and fabrication experience
- CDL or ability to obtain one
- Experience with OEM diagnostic software and electronic controls
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly and up to 100 pounds with assistance
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, kneeling, and climbing
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Ability to operate hand tools, power tools, lifting equipment, and diagnostic devices safely and effectively
